What are the benefits of music therapy treatment for people who have experienced

A stroke?

  • Music can be used as an effective stimulus for movement and exercise.  The predictable and rhythmic nature of music creates an improvement in neurologic coordination.  Music can also be used to slow breath and heart rate to promote a relaxation response.

  • Interventions based in singing can be used to rehabilitate speech skills in those who experience Broca’s aphasia and other speech injuries.

  • Rhythm based interventions can be used to rehabilitate bodily movements.  This may include promoting more symmetrical movements, rehabilitating fine and gross motor skills, and increasing abilities to complete daily tasks.
