What are the benefits of music therapy treatment for people with

Parkinson’s disease?

  • Rhythm based gait and pre-gait exercises can improve coordination and increase strength for everyday movements such as standing, walking, balancing, and stopping/starting movements.

  • Singing and wind instrument interventions can improve posture, speaking tone, speaking volume, and breath support to improve verbal communication.

  • Rhythm based gait exercises can increase the length of walking stride patterns.  By creating exercises that promote lifting the toe and heel off the ground while walking, an individual may be able to decrease or prevent shuffling.

  • Music Therapy consists of many diverse interventions that are adaptable and can meet the changing needs of the client.
